Blue Rose Code
Blue Rose Code is not folk music. Or so he’s been told.
Ross Wilson, the Edinburgh-born songwriter who performs under that name, doesn’t write folk songs. But having discovered the traditional music of the British Isles whilst in exile down south, he fell in love with what he heard. Those sounds informed what happened next.
Ross describes his music as “audibly Scottish, Caledonian Soul” a term borrowed from the music of Van Morrison. Nevertheless, the estimable Bob Harris was so struck by Ross’s acutely personal, bruised and soul-bared songs he flew to Nashville for the BBC Introducing showcase at the 2013 Americana Music Association conference.
The Blue Rose Code trio Spring tour will simply be a must-see show.
“Blue Rose Code is a major talent.” Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2
“This is simply beautiful, I am a folk convert.” Emma Freud, BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends
“An affirmation of love that links human relationships with the natural world. As sublimely paced as Astral Weeks-era Van Morrison.” Folk Radio UK
“This rare display of soul and emption will not be boxed. A sign of something special.” Spiral Earth
“A superb singer, songwriter and guitarist. Beautiful songs, a genuine pleasure to have been involved.” Danny Thompson
“Awful bonnie and quietly lovely, loving that Edinburgh burr.” Karine Polwart
